Our History

Kevin Smith started eSmith IT in 2001 after years of experience in network management, IT troubleshooting, and IT solution development. Kevin saw from a young age that computers and technology were going to revolutionize the way people lived, worked, and played. He took his first programming course in Apple ProDOS at The ComputerRoom in Charlotte, NC at the age of 11.

Kevin went on to study information technology as his passion and hobby while obtaining a degree in Marine Biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. While seemingly unrelated, the diversity and difficulty of the degree curriculum balanced Kevin’s passion for technology with other proficiencies as well as instilling moral and social ethics and responsibility. Kevin went on to obtain certifications from Microsoft's, A+, and others before starting eSmith IT.

eSmith IT began as a network support business, focusing on Microsoft's Servers and Workstations, and the networks that connect them. Over time, eSmith has added additional services and products such as Point of Sale and Voice, over IP to meet their customers. eSmith IT’s staff of experienced professionals and its relationships with partners and vendors allow us provide many solutions for small businesses that would otherwise be too difficult or expensive to implement. eSmith IT takes pride in offering and supporting a wide array of solutions to fit the needs of our clients, from open source solutions such as Linux, Asterisk, and FreeBSD, to fully licensed retail products such as Microsoft's full line of platforms and software, VMWare virtualization producs, and Vipre antivirus products.

Today eSmith IT continues to grow by adding clients looking for a mutually beneficial partnership with their technology vendor and by adding professionals looking to utilize their expertise and skills to help small businesses take advantage of the benefits of information technology.

Our Culture

Though eSmith IT is a corporation, there's nothing really "corporate" about it. Since the beginning, Kevin has always provided his employees with a fun and free working environment where input and creativity are not only welcomed, but encouraged. In fact, eSmith encourages employees to utilize the products they support, such as using Voice and Remote Access, as well as our Cloud based technologies, to telecommute from home. We even encourage team building by having staff participate in activities such as a NASCAR driving experience at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
